Okay here we go:
I own the Samsung HPT4264, and I absolutely love it. I spend 8+ hours a day watching all makes/models and display technologies showing 1080p at work, and I can honestly say my television at home is superior to all others here. My favorite LCD at work is the Sharp Aquos 1080p models, but 1080p comes with a major caviat.
Note first of all that 1080p resolution is only necessary if you are purchasing a television larger than 50in (it seems like you aren't) or if you plan on sitting 4 1/2 feet from the screen. Otherwise your eye won't be able to discern the increased pixel count at optimal viewing distances.
Also, the single most important factor in laboratory tests of people's discernable picture quality preferences is contrast ratio, which is why retailers such as Best Buy and Circuit City always artifically increase the brightness and contrast of their televisions (particuarly large-ticket items).
BUT....
For video gaming an LCD with a 120hz response rate may be the best because of your ability to see higher quality detail with extremely fast motion.
Plasma wins of course with regard to black level and overal contrast (and color gamut), but this newest LCD technology is better for gaming.
Other factors you may want to consider:
-Plasma has a reputation for screen burn-in/latent images ( quickly becoming a non-issue and I've never experienced this, though some report watching news with ticker can give you problems)
-LCD has much shallower viewing angle so guest seated off the center axis may see color or brightness shift
-LCD is typically better in bright sunlight because of its matte screen finish, though Plasma's brighter screens usually make up for this discrepancy

Hope this helps, and happy hunting.
