i have never owned any flat screen or had an hdtv before. buying a samsung 50" plasma, i have time warner cable with the digital cable box in the family room with the basic HD package. time warner gave me some grey (what looks like but not sure) component wires for 'when i upgrade my tv' the installer said. i have heard best buy / circuit city, etc charge an arm and a leg for hdmi cables and to NOT buy them from the chain stores. what will i need to my tv hooked up? will the grey cords my twc guy gave me work, or should i buy something else/better, like on eaby? i just want to have everything ready to go when i make my purchase and looking for some guidance, thanks!

The cables from the Time Warner are pretty good actually. They should be using Broadband Products Inc or some company like that our industry has approved. Using component just means having that more cables than the HDMI (And losing digital surround sound ability), but is still good, but to further the question about using a ps3 and home theater you would want to get an HDMI cable to go from the box to the receiver to be able to get the true surround sound experience.

The ps3 would use whatever connection you are going to use and many receivers have multiple HDMI inputs and one output so expect to purchase at least three HDMI's. You will be glad you did when you finally have it all the pieces together and balanced.

Component wires work well for box-to-TV viewing. If you were going to be using a home theater system, I would recommend HDMI cables. But, if you are just going to be using a cable straight from your provider's box to the TV, your component cables ought to be good enough to begin with. If you do notice any loss of quality (HD should be pretty sharp) then you might want to look at getting a better cable.

When you are installing the cable though, be sure to make sure not to mix up your sound and red color input (there should be five wires on your component cable - right and left sound, and red, green, and blue.). I've done that several times and its obvious that something is wrong.

The component (red/blue/green) cables should get you HD just fine. However, if you want surround sound, you are going to have to buy a surround sound 5.1 or higher speaker system that has a digital audio input. (optical, digital coax, or hdmi).

You're going to want to hookup you r PS3 with an HDMI cable for video, and a fiber optic for sound. By the way, never buy cables from retail stores. You can easily get HDMI and optical cables on amazon.com for less than 5 bucks. Due to the digital nature of HD, any cable will do.Your signal will be perfect regardless of the the gold plated cables the saleman tricked you into buying.

component cables (Red,green, blue and red, white audio cables) will do a great job getting the HD pic to your TV....HDMI is better but you wont notice a huge difference. and the expensive brand HDMI cables are good to buy only if you are running the cable over 20FT or so. anything under that, a cheap cable will work just fine....i have a $10 cable run over 4 Ft and the pic looks amazing.

La última vez quería un cable que conecta mi ordenador al televisor, el cable que me ha llegado corresponde con su descripción, tiene buena transmisión digital, es bastante resistente y una buena calidad y todo a un precio muy bueno, como siempre una excelente compra.
