Question:
Satelite TV Installation?
2007-06-21 06:22:26 UTC
I have a couple questions about installing satellite TV. Is it best to cancel cable after installed or before? Also, how many lines come into the house from the dish? Only one and it is split to multiple TV's or does each receiver has it's own line from the dish. Also is it necessary to have a phone line connected to the receiver. This would cause a problem for us. Thanks.

Cancel after installation

one line for each reciever you are subscribing to (each room)

Must have a phone line for updates and PPV; can just piggyback onto an existing line; doesn't have to be a full time line connection

Cancel the cable after the satellite is installed, you never know if something may happen to delay the install either with the installer or something may come up and you have to reschedule. Each receiver MUST have it's own line to the dish or it will not work and DirecTv DVR needs 2 lines for the dual tuners to work .All lines from the dish must be grounded to the electric service ground at the meter to be in compliance with National Electric Code and usually the individual line connections are made at this point unless it is more practical to do so in the attic or crawlspace if available. If landline phone service is available the technician is required to run lines to each receiver for you,the receivers will not interfere with normal phone use.If you don't have landline it isn't a problem as the receivers work fine without them except you can't order PPV with the remote. One plus to having the phone connected is that if you have caller ID it will display it on screen when you have an incoming call.A good tech will have you walk with them when they do a site survey to see where the dish can be mounted and can explain what options you have in that respect as well as how he plans to route the lines to each room.Always ask questions if you don't understand what he is saying and if you don't like what they are suggesting ask about what alternatives you have to doing it a way you don't like.Quite often there is only one way to do something but you should ask about options and why they want to do things a particular way.

Cancel cable afterwards, in case of missed appt. Lines, depends who you called and what service. One line per room, unless you ask them to "fish" the room, then only a interior hole will be needed. If your getting Dish Network, you need a line to save $5. But otherwise no line is needed for either.

you can cancel after installation if the break in between cable and satellite install is too long for you. you can get up to 4 receivers in your house and each t.v. will get it's own so you caN WATCH DIFFERENT PROGRAMS IN EACH ROOM . a PHONE LINE IS NECESSARY IF YOU PLAN ON PURCHASING MOVIES OR EVENTS TO WATCH, IF NOT, NO PROB

cancel it from the day the sky is installed...

usually only one line comes from the dish .... if you are having sky in more than one room they will usually split the one cable... (sometimes inside the house sometimes outside)

make sure what they do is more convenient for you not just them trying to make their job easier..... tell them how you would prefer it done.

when they install it they will ask for a phone line (for ordering movies and pay per view) but i unplugged mine as soon as they left and it still works fine..

hope this helps

cheers.

cancel ur cable b4 u connect the dish otherwise it wont work. it depends on how many tv's u want to connect to it because u have to have a reciever box that is connected to the dish, but u can only connect 2 tvs to the reciever depending on what kind of reciever u have. u have to have a phone line connect to it in order to get program updates.
