Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs. Last September they featured a Panasonic 42" Plasma and compared it to a Sony, LG, Toshiba and Vizio LCD tvs. The top choice is the Panasonic Plasma and the only tv with a THX (higher standard for video quality) certification. You will also notice that Panasonic has a tv recommended in each price category of entry level to the high end while Sony, Samsung and Toshiba does not (December issue). Plasma is still considered to have the best picture quality than any tv in the market and is also less expensive than the LCD. The very best tv in the market not considering the price as an issue is the Pioneer Elite KURO Plasma at $7,000 for a 60". Hope this will help you out.

If I had the money, I would say the Pioneer Elite plasma tv looks the best. New plasma TV dose not have the same problems as the old ones. But for the money, LCD is going to win.

I have both...LCD is significantly better. Primarily noticeable things include: No crackling sound when the tv turns off (Plasmas, because they use gas, take time to cool down), Plasma leaves ghosting effects for long periods, as the years go by the image will become less colorful (more washed out).

LCD's use a thing called Liquid Crystals and backlights...in short, they are limited in the angles in which you view the screen...more specificaly, the image colors get wacky along the side.

Plasma was a marvel way back in the early 90s and really only got their day when people started looking to flat screen tvs for their homes...but LCD spoiled the fun when LCD's jumped from computers (the computer industry helped hone the LCD to weed out its imperfections for a long time which doubly doomed Plasma since noone was working to advance it) into the living room.

Another competitor that has died out (as the Plasma) is the DLP...sharper picture but it is a bit larger in size (everyone wants thiner, not larger), and it had the strange rainbow effect.

The God-Send of TVs though is the OLED technology....OMG...It literally resolves the flaws of all the others and does it at the size of only 1-3mm thick (That is like 1-3 credit cards in thickness). And the clarity is amazing...1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio....meaning black is black....the problem with OLED is cost right now....But you can also do cool things like Fold it (yes, literally bend and roll it up while its playing video)... if you've seen movies like "Red Planet" then you know what i mean. OLED also uses very little power. It is used in cellphones due to its clarity.

So, in the end LCD is by far the King of the hill...but its successor in about 3-5 years tops will clearly be OLED. Kodak owns the patent so buy their stock now while its cheap.

Plasma will have a high refresh rate or hrts...a good plasma will crank out 600hrt when a good top of the line lcd has 240. Plasmas have a glass screen so it needs to go in a basement or a den...Lcds can be used any were. The pictures on lcds are Very bright and darker colors lack.

Depends on where you're going to use it. Plasma TVs work best in dark rooms, but look good from a wide variety of angles. LCDs work better in brighter rooms, but are best viewed from straight ahead or a very slight angle. Also, LCDs generally use less power than Plasmas.

As an consumer's .smart consumers .the more you know about technically, the more you get confessing.because you can never reach deep detail.

if you looking for screen size below 42 inc.ONLY LCD TV available. ( new LED TV as this moment available only 32 and 37 inc and big screen ).

non of LCD TV able to compare Plasma display quality . true dark colours / pure black colour and rich in colours display. 100 % with out " motion blur ".

LCD TV must have " motion blur " that very uncomfortable to human eye.

HI END LCD TV able to " cover / hide " away the motion blue. but the " blur " still there , Mose of the human eye accepted that. 30 % of sports movies lover still question about the " blur ".you need to paid 1 to 2 X prices compare to Plasma TV.

New LED TV is 95 % of Plasma quality. but 2 to 3 X in prices.

what is motion blur . look at the ball.

New 2008/9 Plasma TV life time = LCD TV . both 60,000 hours. ( old Plasma just below 40,000 hours )

Easy burn in / over heat / very high power consumption is never an issue any more . * even long hours for games / still image * New Plasma ( Panasonic / Samsung / LG ) with anti burn in circuit designs and Energy Star Qualified .*

to support this answer . read the link below .

Panasonic, Samsung and LG are reaping the benefits of staying with Plasma TV technology with researchers reporting a 31% jump in global sales. Q1 2009 sales value was up 35% over 2008 according to Quixel Research.

counsumers are not " STUPID ".

Plasma or LCD.??

big screen . PLASMA. ( Panasonic / Samsung / LG )

small screen 19-40 . BEST IS LED.

standard LCD models.very bad in motion blur.( Mose of the people use to that , budget is one of the main reason )

HI END 120 HZ / 200 HZ models will be much better.

LCD TV is you paid for what you get. ( but never reach Plasma quality )

OLED TV still long way to go. only Sony " 11 inc " for show. how many people seen OLED TV before.? on CES show . or any body able to OWN that ? .

The final decision as to what type of flat panel television to purchase (LCD, LED or Plasma) is really up to you here are pros & cons of each for your decision

Pros of Plasma

- Better contrast ratio

- better ability to render deep blacks, more color depth,

- better motion tracking (response time)

- more availability in very large screen sizes.

Cons of Plasma

- more susceptible to burn-in (although this is not as much of a factor now, due to technology improvements in the past few years)

- more heat generation (as well as more power consumption)

- screen glare in brightly lit rooms

- heavier weight, and more delicate to ship.

Good brand that I would recommend for Plasma is Panasonic or Samsung

Pros of LCD

- LCD television advantages include no burn-in susceptibility

- cooler running

- less screen glare, more functional at high altitudes

- longer display life (although improvements are being made in Plasma screen life)

- looks better in brightly lit rooms

- less power consumption than Plasma.

Cons of LCD

- Lower contrast ratio

- not as good rendering deep blacks

- not as good at tracking motion (although this is improving, especially with the implementation of 120Hz refresh rates (and some now offer 240Hz) on higher-end models).

Good brand for LCD that I would recommend is Samsung or Sony
