Hi mate i don't want to undermine anyone else but i have been installing TVs for about 8 years now and Panasonic were a great TV and good sets but Sony a leading the way between the 2. Especially if you intend to get something around the 40 inch size. Our supplier has said that the 42 inch Panasonic's have had a lot of problems lately. Out of the Sony's about 15% of them have been returned faulty probably out of the thousands sold, but out of the Panasonics same number sold at least 40% plus faulty. Also my sister has her Sony 42inch over 2 years in the kitchen wall and not a thing wrony ever. since that she has bought another Sony 40inch for her Sitting room.
Hope this hels with the choice.

I personally think Sony is way over rated. I never seem to see these great pictures everyone else seems to be seeing when compairing them to other TVs. Sony also has a very clever advertising campaign, so do not be fooled by that either. Anyway, let me make clear that I did not say they were a bad product, I just said they were over rated. For example take a close look at computer monitors and which companies get the highest ratings. The Sony is up there but it is not the highest rated and never has been when it came to computer monitors. I picked computers because they have been using flat panel screens for a longer period of time than TVs. Next, go to the store and really look at the picture and be honest with yourself when you look at the picture. Is the Sony's picture really better? Or are you being taken in by Sony's hype? In today's HD, is one picture really that much better than the other? So the big question is, is Sony really any better than Panasonic? In my opinion, no. If the picture on the Panasonic looks great and it saves you a few bucks than get the Panasonic.

Sony maybe expensive but their products always seem to be of high quality. Infact all the sony products i have owned have never let me down. Saying that panasonic aren't exactly low quality.
I would say the Sony TV, but shop around and get the best price!

Go for the Sony 32W set! It has the Bravia 2 engine and is quite incredible! Try and get a Sony Blu-Ray player for half price if you are paying anywhere near the full price! Try John Lewis or Empire Direct! Good Luck!

Not Sony. Never Sony. The quality of R&D and manufacturing is poorer than most other Japanese manufacturers. The cases look great and the ads look nice but what you get inside is inferior and less reliable. Panasonic, Pioneer, Toshiba or Hitachi, etc. but not Sony.
If I didn't mention it, don't buy Sony.

Having researched TV's for nearly a year before I bought mine, both are undoubtedly good TV's but Panasonic won every review I've read apart from one (Pioneer won that).

Unless you have a major preference when you watch them at the store, go with whichever you can get a better deal on. I have a wega crt and a Tau crt and they have both been great. Both brands are super reliable.
