Question:
3D TV Advice Needed - which one to buy?

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 3D TV and I need a little advice.

I want the TV to be as cheap as possible but I don't mind paying for something better. I'm looking to spend in the region of £500-700 (there appears a lot of options around this price mark)

The questions I have are as follows:

1) Plasma or LCD/LED? and why?

2) As for glasses, I understand most TV's either come with or have recommended glasses but they're not particularly cheap. Now I don't mind buying 2 or 3 pairs for normal use but say I have friends round to watch the football - it's unreasonable to buy 8 or 9 pairs of glasses - do cinema ones work at all?

3) Which brands should I look at? It seems Samsung are the most reasonably priced.

4) Which TV's do you guys have.

I've tried using websites such as Which/Reevoo but there's ridiculous amounts of TVs and they all appear the same. I don't really want to ask for advice at Comet/Curry's because the staff are obliged to show certain ones.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Don't waste your money.........yet.!!

The 'pathetic amount' of 3D TV shows around are not worth the money paid - dvd's costing the earth (at the moment) - it would cost you a 'fortune' to build-up a library - 3D glasses at.....100 each x that by a household of (say) 4 = an extra 400.......forget it.!!

In time (if 3D continues) 3D TV's will become cheaper + these 'overpriced glasses'.

I suspect 3D TV will go the 'same way' as the 'few' 3D cinema films/movies did in the 60/70's - far too costly for equipment/producing etc - and was forgotten within 18months.

I can help you big time on this.... I just took the better part of 6 months researching this to the bone. I can tell you that the best tv for the money and picture you can get right now is the Panasonic Viera Plasma. Here are some reasons.

Keep an eye on the Hertz (Hz). Panasonic has 1080p x 600 hz. The hertz will determine your refresh rate which to your eye, if it is slower, you'll see trails when someone moves. Most LCD's are only up to 240hz. LED's and DLP are at either 60 or 120hz. LED's have a nice bright picture, but the refresh rate sucks which kills the picture's sharpness. I had an LCD before the plasma and I wish I had of gone to Plasma in lieu of the LCD on my first tv. There is a large difference in Motion blur and brightness. LED's basically came out to compete with LCD's. Although there seems to be a hype on the LED's probably since they are new, they really don't have a good picture, except that they are bright and have a blacker blacks. Ask anyone at a tv retail store like Best Buy, they will say the same.

Glasses - Cinema glasses do not work. You need to get glasses for the tv model you are purchasing. If you are getting a Panasonic, you need panasonic glasses. If you are getting a Samsung, get Samsung glasses. They do not work the same as the glasses in the theatres. They are much better and are rechargeable.

I have a Panasonic Viera 50" Plasma 3D TV. It is a 1080p - 600 hz. Best place to get that paticular tv is Best Buy right now. Or Amazon. It won picture of the year in 2010 by CNET (which is a good place to get reviews... www.cnet.com). The picture is almost too good believe it or not. And the 3D is phenomenal. I have two pair of glasses and they are extremely expensive for any 3D tv you buy. Expect to pay between $100-$150 for each pair.

I researched the Samsung but they did not get near the reviews that the Panasonic Viera got. You can also look them up on Amazon and read user reviews. They are real reviews from people and push a 5 star on nearly all of them.

I've done tons of research on this, some people may say that I'm full of it, but if you need proof, just go to Best Buy and have a look for yourself but remember what I said about the speed of the refresh rate. Plasma is the only type of tv now that can get 600 hz. Just remember you want 1080p and 600hz picture refresh rate. Then if you walk over to a DLP or LED, you'll notice with the slower refresh rate, you see trails that you didn't realize were there until you now know about them.

Trust me in saying that the Panasonic Viera is going to be the best picture at the lowest cost and an amazing 3D. Plus it will also hook up to your wireless internet at home and allow you to stream netflix, facebook, youtube, Cinema Now, Twitter, and many others. Hope this helps, sorry for writing a book, just have a lot of information in my head from the amount of research I've recently done. Feels like I'm getting it all out.... :) I also tend to agree with the other post concerning LG. They were good as well only I found them to be a bit more expensive, but close to the same review as the Panasonic. Good luck!

cinema glasses will only work provided that the tv is passive 3d otherwise 99% of them are active 3d which is where it gets expensive. LG do a really good set at the moment that is passive 3d in whixh you get 7 yes 7 pairs of glasses in the tv box its self & you can add more to the set up as you need to for very little cost.

Plasma or LCD the debate goes on it depends entirely on what you watch as to what would be recommended

Plasma is usually movies & sports due to its faster response times LCD is usually if you watch normal tv i.e. corrie, eastenders etc

I'm getting an LG - they make most of the parts for other manufacturers with panasonic being the exception

PS Comet & Curry are NOT obliged to show you certain models we try to match up a model that is most suitable to your need that you tell us about e.g you like sport or you dont like sport

I just bought the Vizio 42 inch 3D TV and i love it!

1. This one is only LCD but it's still good. I would choose LCD/LED instead of plasma because plasma overheats very quickly and doesn't last as long

2. the Vizeio 42 inch comes with 2 pairs of glasses. Yes, they're expensive to buy separately but i'm sure you can find some cheap good ones online! As for the theater ones, I'm not sure if they work...

3. VIzio!! They're cheap
