I have a Vizio E601i-A3 and it won't respond. It won't turn off, the volume won't go down or up. I even went up to the TV and try to turn it off with the buttons on the side of it and still no response. Please help!

Pull the power plug and leave it alone for several minutes. Plug it in again and try it. TVs are full of processors, like your computer, and when one of them locks up, it can freeze everything (like your computer).
If that doesn't work, it's time to consider a visit to a repair shop. Is it still under warranty? If yes, start the process.

In addition to locking up most of the time, my tv was not finding my wireless signal and most of time trying to get to the settings caused the lockup issue. I moved my tv to where I could supply it with a wired ethernet source hoping that it would pull a new firmware revision. The tv seemed to work perfectly with the wired connection. I powered off the TV and after awhile I unplugged the ethernet cable. After powering back on it found the wireless signal and connected automatically. I am having no trouble opening the settings menu and everything seems to be back to normal. I'm not sure if it downloaded new firmware or not but it is working for now. About firmware. updates are done automatically. The tv searches the vizio server whenever it has access to the web and if there is a newer firmware available it downloads it. It is installed the next time the tv is turned off. (assuming it is still plugged in.)

This isn't an answer as much as a follow-up comment to the "Best Answer". I have two Vizio smart TVs that do the exact same thing. I have taken both of them back and the new ones do the same thing. I tried the "Other Answer" and neither had CEC set to on. I have called Vizio support multiple times over the last two years and they have not been able to figure it out. Perhaps I will try again, I am due!

I had this problem, too, but powering off the TV didn't fix it for me. I had accidentally changed the CEC settings to 'ON'. Had to unplug the tv from the digital cable box, turn off the tv, turn it back on, and change the CEC settings to 'OFF'. Then I plugged everything back in and it worked.
