hi im getting sky installed on sunday but my query is over the cable routing which i don't want the way sky do it over doors and along skirting boards. The thing is i use an ariel the now into an slx 1 in 4 out in the loft giving perfect signal to all rooms but i was wondering if the engineer could run the cable from the sky dish into an adapter to fit normal ariel socket to fit slx 1 in 4 out which would give signal to lounge and cable from lounge wall socket to reciever?

It's possible, but all the rooms would have to watch the same channel.

If you have an engineer that works direct for sky they wont do this as they aren't allowed to and are lazy anyway, however, if your engineer is a sub contractor ie... he turns up in a van that hasn't got sky plastered down the side of it you can only ask him. When i used to install sky (sub contractor) i would always discuss the options with the customer but please remember that any change to a non standard installation WILL cost you more as the engineer may end up doing that bit more work and/or using extra materials. Just explain what you need and the engineer should sort you out.

Your Sky engineer won't do it. They have to pay for cable themselves and therefore do the simplest install with the shortest cable runs.

Your best bet is to cable it yourself either before or after the Sky engineer's visit (make sure you use high quality co-ax - you'll regret it otherwise). I've done mine and run all the cables under the floorboards.

Alternatively, contact a local "Aerial and Satellite" installation company - they will be able to install it exactly how you want, but will charge accordingly (and Sky won't pay the bill).

It's well worth doing it properly, cables running along skirting looks very unsightly!

YOU WONT BE ABLE TO DO THIS the sky engineer will tell you the same.

you can ask the rigger to take a lead from your sky box to the loft and to take the lead from the RF2 OUTLET ON YOUR SKY BOX TO THE AMP IN THE LOFT, but remember all the televisions in the house will show the same channel if you do it this way. you could buy a amp with two in and four out and connect your aerial in one socket and the sky in another socket this will enable you to watch terrestrial TV if you so required on the tvs should you require to do so

when we had SKY installed over 12 years ago, we had a similar problem, explained it all to the engineer, he left us us ample cable to put the cable thru the garage, over the loft and down an exterior wall, so no cable visible in any part of the house,

Explain all this to the engineer before he starts to enable him to give you his advice and the best possible action to take - they are human.

Dont let him put cables thru the house and then moan and complain

if the cable you use is same as the cable he will use cant see why not but he would need a splitter dont know if they carry these so probably best getting one and remember at the end of your aerial cable he would to put a screw on connector for the sky box ,at end of day they try to do best as they can plus the sky box needs to connect to a phone point too

the put the dish outside where it will be connect unless you have a previous dish they will carry it through the wall and into the Set top box

Err rm he probably can if you just ask on the phone or wait till he comes

Good Luck With your new box

I really doubt it, they just whacked a bloody hole in the wall and made a direct connection.
