I bought a tv, I'm not american and i don't know so much about cable tv. My landlord told me that my apartment isn't provided with cable but I decided anyway to buy a tv.

I know that i have to call cox company for providing me tv channels, but looking to their website i can see only the possibility to buy expensive bundles while i'm looking for something cheaper, like 15 or 20 bucks per month. Just basic channels.

Someone also told me that if you buy the box cable (or something like that) you can avoid calling cox. Just connect the box to the television and to the plug cable on the wall and it will give some channels without paying anything more.. Is that correct?

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I live in IRVINE, south california and I know for sure that my internet provider is COX.

You can't get legally free cable - period

If you get basic, analog, cable, you don't need a set-top box. Your HDTV may actually be able to also get some free digital channels.

I suggest you get an antenna - Check www.antennaweb.org for help. If you live close to a transmitting antenna, a good, indoor antenna may be good enough to get your local channels, even in HD.

it is vitally standard. the comparable setup i've got been given from my HD cable service. right this is why...HD cable vendors in basic terms deliver out a max decision of 1080i. that's the max decision of what element cables(crimson/blue/green) can carry. HDMI cables can carry as much as 1080p, yet using fact the sign is purely in 1080i, a HDMI cable may well be overkill! there is not any reason to apply HDMI while the max decision is 1080i! you will not SEE A huge difference! a great style of answerer's in this internet site nonetheless won't be able to hold close this theory! They constantly think of that HDMI is often the terrific! the only actual 1080p severe-def components available good now are Blu-ray, PS3, Xbox 360 and very few satellite tv for pc HD vendors! it is the place HDMI may well be the popular cable to apply!

Cox has basic tv package starting at 11.25 a month depending on your area. You don't have to buy all your services through them, you can just get basic channels. The other answer is also correct.
