You'll need a VCR with Audio Outs. One that also has multiple Video Ins is preferable. The coaxial cable line (the thick cable from from the cable box or directTV box) must be disconnected from the TV and connected to the coaxial Video In on the VCR. Then you'll need an additional coaxial cable (available at Best Buy, RadioShack, Target, Walmart, etc.) which you'll run from the Video Out on the VCR to the Video In on the TV. Set your TV on channel 3. From now on you'll need to use the VCR's remote to change channels, unless you have a multi-device remote. Then connect your surround sound reciever to the Audio Outs on your VCR, and you should be good to go. Any other video source devices (DVD Player, Video Game System, etc.) can be connected to the VCR's additional Video Ins, if available.

You don't need a VCR with audio out if you have a cable or dish reciever. most cable boxes and dish boxes have an Audio out put. Run your audio out from cable / sat box right into rcvr audio input. If your rcvr has a video in you an also put your video out to video in on rcvr and than run a video only wire to your tv from rcvr. Good Luck

If you have a surround sound you need to now: a) The audio protocol of your audio equipment( 3.1,4.1,5.1). b) What TV station or video feed you want to see. c) Many surround system use 5.1 new format. Use your stereo VCR. Surround is sophisticate if you want "REAL SURROUND" my friend!!!!
