I know there's things like contrast ratio and response time, but there's a ton of other stuff, what's important, and what can I ignore?

I second the 1080i resolution. I would also look to see if it can do 16:9 aspect ratios. Most HD DVDs [when they come out in quantities] are going to be widescreen, HD broadcasts are going to be (if they're not already) widescreen, so unless you want your picture cropped, get the wide. Also, look to see how many inputs there are and what types they are. Make sure that you can do both HD and Standard broadcast/connections.

I also recommend that you not get a built-in HD module. Let your satellite or cable provider provide the one that works with their system [this way you can switch and won't be tied to 1 provider based on what's built into the set].

if it's not hd don't bother, for specs make sure it can reach 1080i resolution. it's true hd if it does
