I am looking for a new tv and just wondering if you wanted the response time lower or higher, like 5ms or 8ms which is better. I already know I want a tv with at least 120hz refresh rate, 1080p, LCD, 42" or bigger, and a nice high contrast ratio(regular contrast not dynamic). so any tv recommendations would help to. oh yeah and I have $3000 to spend on it(won it on a lotto ticket).

Wow you have good luck. Less response value will give you better response.I would recommend Samsung LN52A650 52-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color

50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio

Blazing 4ms response time

or better one Samsung LN52B750 52-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV

150,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio

Fast 2ms response time

Get a plasma.

LCDs list the response time, or lag time because it's a problem that LCD has never solved. It's the same reason that LCD can only show 1080 lines of resolution for still images. When things move (like 99.99% of the time right?) the resolution can drop by 50% or more.

Forget 120hz on LCD that makes everything look like it was shot on a camcorder. Get the new 600hz Panasonic plasmas that don't have this side effect, better color, better blacks, no lag time.

If for some reason you are just dying to go LCD, get something like Samsung's LED sets (LCD with LED backlight) it has great blacks and color, still has the same lag issue but it's the best LCD out there only the best LED sony XBR sets are in the same league.

And by the way, you want the lower number. Plasma has such a low response time (under 1 millisecond) that they don't even bother to list it.

Your contemporary television could be in the back of simply by 3 photograph processing. basically be sure you change off any "more advantageous action" or something like that. various TVs actually have a "activity mode" that turn off all those effective properties. i've got considered those styles of effective properties upload as much as two seconds of put off. No situation once you're looking at a action picture, undesirable information once you're enjoying a video activity.
