Start by calling the cable company to diagnose. If you are seeing a guide on the screen and getting sound, something else may be going on such as a outage with your cable company. It could also be that you are on a channel with no signal. Sometimes I turn on my TV and cable box and the screen is absolutely black but I can bring up the guide. I just change channels until I find one that works.

If you are getting sound only but no picture, check the cabling between your cable box and your TV.

Also, try connecting the cable from the cable box to your TV and run the auto tune capability. There is no reason to take your TV in to a shop if there is nothing wrong with your TV.

Repair costs can vary. It cost me over $100 to repair a TV that had a problem. Check out the link below on how to talk to a TV tech to get your TV repaired.

If you're using some sort of cable box, it sounds like it's an issue with the box or service not your TV. If you're not using a box, then it probably costs more then the TV is worth.

Sort of a strange problem....sound would mean your tv's power suppy is working so why no picture? Have you tried attaching a vcr or dvd player to your set ? Check the settings...is your tv set on ch 3 or video?
