DONT use household cleaners ever, I use "Monster Screenclean" it works great and does a great job of repelling dust. I bought it at Best buy , about $20.00 , yes a bit expensive but well worth it for fat screens and computer monitors as well.

If you are looking for a great picture at an affordable price you can't beat a Panasonic 42" projection. The picture is as crisp as higher priced TVs and have been built to last. I have seen some great deals on (tigerdirect.com), and they have free shipping on some orders. Good Luck!!

My personal concern is KIDS....They have Destroyed LCD Flat panel screens throwing stuff at the LCD panels, taking scissors/stones to the panel, and using their favorites, like markers or crayons on them....

LCDs and Kids don't mix, unless you mount it 5 to 6 feet high...

So consider Plasma with Kids.

No Kids? Great ! No problem....

For $1000 you can't any good Brand name. So I can only suggest Getting An Extended Contract with your TV....

Visio might be the ONLY TV that may EVENTUALLY provide parts to repair their product line...

That's still up in the air, but Samsung has become involved with Visio.....

MY SUGGESTION for the BEST Bang for the buck....

Hitachi 51F59 Projection TV set.

It will outlast ANY Flat Screen

Cost is $900 for the F series from Hitachi....

personally, i would choose a 42 inch or under. and no lcd.

i have heard that the screen burns out so much faster.

i have owned a phillips standard for 12 years now. still crisp. sony , toshiba, and panasonic seem to be the hd choice. according to consumers report. and i would follow that lead,

Here put simply is the differences between Plasma and LCD

LCD's: Higher resolution (Sharper),brighter, non-reflective.

PLASMA: Faster processor for movement, (Smoother images) more natural colours (because of higher contrasts),and 3 dimensional look.

Similar prices now in 40" - 42" market.

In terms of energy consumption, LCDs use constant power, Plasmas fluctuate depending on whats on screen (Light or Dark?). What I've heard from diff sources, that over a year period, they both use similar amount of power!

Most people are buying LCDs, as with HD TV they look that much sharper, etc. If you are a sports fanatic, recommended Plasma still, because of lots of movement, but for general TV and Dvds and sports, LCD. Follow the trend!

Both are great technologies, just different!

Recommend: Samsung/Sony LCDs. Samsung/Panasonic/Pioneer plasmas.

Samsung make a lot of components and screens for other companies.

Hope this helps.
