Set up a Direct Debit. You can do it on line in a few minutes. This is the safest way to avoid any problems in the future.

Despite what some people think, it does not cost more and you don't "pay twice". They have a scheme where you pay up to six months "in hand". This actually works in your favour because you cannot slip behind in the payments.

Please ignore the "chancers" who claim never to be "visited" or who have gone several months without a licence. The Authority can't chase everyone all the time. These people have been lucky - you may not be, and the fine is up to £1000.

BTW the noun is "licence", not "license" (that's American). see how they use it on the web site.

Technically speaking you will not be covered from 29th Feb until they receive and process your payment. That's fine, because they will backdate your licence to 1st Mar anyway. They're nice and considerate like that. In fact if you'd broken your TV and decided not to get it fixed until June, they would still backdate the licence to 1st Mar anyway (it's a nice little earner for them).

If you set up a direct debit, as someone else suggested, then you actually end up paying more because you'll have to make double payments for the first 6-months (e.g. you'll end up in the situation where they have 6-months more fee then you do licence).

What you should never do, under any circumstances, is pay too early. If you do that they rip you off by rolling back the licence start date to the 1st of the month. Read more:

Go to the TV licence site and set up a direct debit, That way you only have to find £12 or so every month rather than a £150 hit in one go.

TV Licencing now have a few different plans which enable you to spread your payments throughout the year rather than you having to find the cash in one lump sum. As well as payments by direct debit. Check out the website & maybe sign up for one of them.

i pay mine with direct debit and sometimes there is not enough money in the bank to cover it,, they just send you a letter saying that there no money in the bank and they will get it later

they are NOT going to hunt you down for £10+

Send a cheque a couple of days beforehand - get a proof of postage! A cheque takes a few days to clear and so long as they have it on the 29th, you should be ok.

Just give them a ring that you are going to be a few days late or you can wait for a reminder to come!

It happens to most of us!

You can now pay monthly or quarterly. Go to the licence website and check it out. It should solve your problems.

Don't worry about it, it will take them at least 3 months to catch up with you.
