Liquid Crystal Display Televisions (LCD TV) are televisions that use LCD technology for visual output (producing an image). The technology used is generally TFT, because this allows for size, especially depth reduction, lower weight and reduced energy consumption. These LCD screens are also used as computer monitors. A plasma display panel (PDP) is a type of flat panel display now commonly used for large TV displays (typically above 37-inch or 940 mm). Many tiny cells located between two panels of glass hold an inert mixture of noble gases (neon and xenon). The gas in the cells is electrically turned into a plasma which then excites phosphors to emit light. both r good..but comparatively plasma tv is better in clarity and is expensive than lcd tv..if u want more clarity go for plasma tv..lcd is also gud and u can use it for ur pc..

Well.....sometimes it's the power board...other times it's the signal board...then once in a while you have to replace the LCD panel...
Whew! Glad I bought that extended warranty that covers labor and parts !

Generally, extended warranties aren't really necessary with LCDs. They are pretty stable and most problems will occur in the first year which is covered by manufacturer's warranty.
Just be sure to check carefully for the warranty for the manufacturer of your tv. Many of the very cheap, lower tier tvs have only 90 days or you have to ship the tv to them, etc. Samsung and Sony are top brands with good warranties, if you register a Samsung with them, you get 15 months.
Another problem with extended warranties at this time is that some are going out of business each month. So the warranty is worthless.

If you own a 52 inc or even bigger screen LCD TV made by Sony.Sharp.Samsung.Panasonic,LG.Toshiba . you don't need any extended warranties at all. If you get any of Local Brand LCD TV, you need 5 years extended warranties ,and it a must. Worldwide Brand always use grad 1 LCD display panel by own LCD display factory ( some are JV. eg, Sony-Samsung JV S-LCD in Korea ,Panasonic JV Toshiba AFPD in Singapore. Philips-LG JV in Korea * now own by LG * ). Those Local Brand, always use low quality LCD display panel, there may buy Samsung-Sony S-LCD panel,LG panel, but because of prices, always go for gard 2 products,or 60 % grad 1 and max 40 % grad 2 panel in each shipment . many of Local in-house Brand need to change panel in 2 years time, and it costs more than half prices of new TV. Paid more to enjoy Quality pictures and sound + reliable + worries free from Worldwide Brand . ( Sony.Samsung will be good ) and save money for extended warranties. Paid much less to buy a Local Brand TV, Pictures Quality is not so good and you have to paid money for E-Warranties, even repair is FREE, but very inconvenience.
