I'll try to keep this brief but detailed, I recently had my TV die on me so I need to buy a new TV, there are a couple things:
- I want an LED/LCD that is around 40" (36-42) *No plasma (bad experience)*
- It has to be 1080p
- Will be used for watching movies, sports and gaming, the usual stuff!
- Preferably under $600 but if it's awesome I'll go a bit over.

I know Samsung is a solid brand but that's the full extent of my television knowledge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First off, you can not see the difference between 720P and 1080P in screen smaller that a 46". The only source for 1080P is the blu ray disc movies and some video games. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. Panasonic Plasma has more tv being recommend that from any factory on any type of tv. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. If you read yahoo questions all the time, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD or LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Panasonic or Samsung are the top brand. Keep in mind that all LCD or LED tv have problem with blur motion when watching fast action sports or playing video games. To reduce the blur motion you will need the faster refresh rate of the 120HZ, this will also raise the price of the tv. Low end models from also have problems with the power circuit board going out on them. Hope this will help you out.
