I recently got a LG Smart TV, 3D(if anyone would be kind enough to tell me how to I put 3d subtitles, if not just answer to this one), Full HD and I want to watch a movie in this weekend along with my classmates. I want to know if I can somehow play it with subtitles, since not many of my classmates can watch an english dubbed movie and understand everything. I'm not sure about the model but it's a new 2013 model, 80cm, 3usb ports, 3HDMI etc... Please detail this in step by step if possible as I suck at everything about technology. Thank you.

This all sucks. My TV is highly advanced and won't play subs. Asses who upload torrents don't make sure that the NON-English spoken is hardcoded. WHY! It takes me freaking ages to find the subs without the whole movie being subbed, and then ANY Converter won't do crap to my files, and one program that does, screws up the whole video format and the ******* subtitles are ******* huge over the screen! It was like the encoder downgraded the video from Blu-Ray to minus SD!

Some televisions do not handle USB hard drives. Flash drives are fine but there is something different about hard drives. You might be better off with a small box like the Western Digital TV Live box. This will work with a USB hard drive and it has much better support for most file types. Note: .mkv files are container files like a zip file so the device has to un-pack the file and then hopefully be able to play the internal AVI, WMV, MPG, etc. My WD box has handled the .mkv files I fed it just fine. The WD box runs about $99 and does handle USB 2.0 hard drives. I do not know if it is compatible with a USB 3.0 drive.

So I have bought this real nice 32 inches LED TV: Samsung UE32EH4000 32-inch Widescreen HD Ready LED TV. I am not really a fan of TV serials. I use my TV mostly for playing games. Since it is a HD TV, I thought of watching high definition movie on it. My preferred way to watch movies is with sub-titles. In computer, it is very easy to watch a movie with subtitles, but it was “almost” not the same in TV. First time I tried watching the movies with subtitles on my LED TV, I failed miserably.

So here is what I learnt with my ordeal with subtitles and TV:

Your TV should be advanced enough to read a subtitles. Mine is.

Name the folder, the video file and the subtitle files exactly same. Just the extension should be different, nothing else.

Video format of the files also matter. I found it to be working .mp4 and .avi. I’ll update with more formats as I find it.

Using subtitles on TV via USB has some limitations. If you use computer you can synchronize subtitles, watch videos on internet with subtitles or even download subtitles automatically. But it does let you enjoy movies with subtitles without having to connect your laptop to HDMI and this you can watch the movie as well as use your computer simultaneously.

I hope these small tips help you in playing a movie with subtitles on a HDTV via USB.

I have a VIZIO E43-C2 LED HDTV which will play video files, but not srt files. I wonder if there is a way to imbed the srt file into the video file.
