NTSC/PAL and component video?

I have very silly question, does the component (y/Ybr) video signal is in the NTSC or PAL format or is it system independent. the reason I am asking this is because I am going to take my Pansonic TV from US to India, where the television system is PAL. But I will buy a local Dish/setop box ,which will have a component video output. so if the compo. video is independent of the format then I don't need worry about NTSC-PAL converter otherwise I will have to buy one.

The component has its own format so it will tell you whether it is NTSC or PAL but some TV's support both so you should check which format your TV uses.

Component Video can be both PAL and NTSC.

Your India set-top box will output in PAL. Unless your TV is a multistandard TV, or you use a PAL to NTSC converter, it is not going to work.

Technically component has no PAL or NTSC coding of the color information, since it is on distinct wires.

However the lower resolutions/scan rates are dictated by the local analog TV standard. 480i/p for NTSC and PAL-M, and 576 i/p for most PAL. 720P and 1080i are international.
