I love laserdiscs & my 32inch analog tv but i guess one day i will be forced to buy one of these thin body lcd or plasma tvs. Does anyone know if laserdisc players or even a vcr will play on them. I own a dvd player also but i enjoy running laserdiscs every night.

You can hook up these older devices to your HDTV. However, if the LD player doesn't support widescreen, you'll probably end up with a 4:3 "box " on your HDTV with bars on the sides, and then that will be letterboxed so you'll have bars on the top/bottom as well. You can probably reduce this to some extent using the HDTV's zoom settings.

DVD players, however, can support 16:9 - especially if you get an upscaling player. These players will take the native DVD resolution, and upscale it to the HD resolution of your TV. This will result in a full screen image with no black bars above/below or left/right (well, unless the original show was in 4:3...) I know of no LD player that can do this, but at least you'll be able to view your LDs on a new HDTV in some form or another.

Yes it will play. New HDTVs play old style analog TV signals just fine. Your Laserdisc is just another source for standard TV like VHS, DVD, broadcast TV, etc.

yes, its just a monitor, it displays what its told. that sounds weird but hopefully you get my point. anyways, vcrs, laserdisc, dvds, bluray.. they all have a certain resolution that it is displayed in, all tvs will play this resolution, its just how clear its going to look. you can watch a bluray movie on a 1980 tv, its just not going to look very nice. just like you can watch a laser disc on a brand new lcd tv, its not the same resolution as bluray but it will still be displayed in that lower resolution.

buy a ps3. then you get a game console and one of the best cheapest bluray players on the market. or wait until toshiba drops hd dvd completely, they are coming out with really cheap blu ray player within the next couple months

Don't worry....Even the NEWEST TV sets still have a set of RCA inputs designed for your VCR and Laserdisc....

the hot competing formats are HD-DVD and Blue-Ray DVDs. that's the hot VCR vs Betamax wars, possibly. for the reason that the two at the instant are on game platforms, that is conceivable that neither will become out of date. There are presently drives that play the two. the two variations will enable greater definition interior the flicks and video games via fact the two can carry lots greater guidance than a modern-day DVD. it could take awhile for the two to catch on. A customer ideal now those gamers fee over $600 and human beings could could desire to rebuy their DVD series to work out theri video clips interior the hot format like they did with music whilst they went from tapes to CDs etc.

Sure. All HDTVs have composite and s-video legacy video ports.
