Do I need to have a satellite dish installed to have freeview?

I've just bought a new Sony TV and I'm looking to buy a FreeView set top box from Amazon. Will I have to get a dish installed or will I just be able to plug it in and then have access to the channels?

FreeView - Digital decoder from normal aerial.
FreeSat - requires satellite.
If it's a very old antenna you may need to replace it. If it's newer {probably last 20 years or so} you just need to plug the cable into the FreeView box and then into the television.
If it's a new TV, I'm surprised it doesn't have a FreeView decoder on the receiver unit. They practically all do now.
{edit} We're assuming that you can get a UK TV signal where you are though...

Just to support what's been said already, Freeview comes through your aerial - your existing one is probably fine but in a minority of cases you need an upgrade - so you don't need any kind of dish. I would recommend having more than one Freeview tuner (maybe one built in the TV or a DVD recorder and one as a set-top box) so you can watch one channel and record another.

You receive Freeview through a broadband digital aerial. You may get away with using your existing UHF aerial but even in a high signal strength area the picture may be subject to 'drop outs'. To get the best picture from your new Sony don't cut back on the aerial installation.
To receive Freesat you will require a Freesat receiver and dish.

We have a TV aerial that is about 15 years old.
We can get around 70 Freeview TV and radio channels perfectly.

I would check to see whether your new TV has a freeview unit built in before buying one from Amazon.
And you only need as satellite dish if you want Sky or Freesat.

Depends where you live. In some areas, signal strength is not sufficient for digital reception via a roof aerial.
Check it out on the Freeview website.

NO, unless you want to receive Freesat, Freeview comes through your normal aerial.

No, but you may need to upgrade your aerial if it still analogue. Otherwise, you can still get freeview but the picture may appear blocky occasionally.

Definitely not. You will probably need a roof mounted aerial.
