I have a 40" tv and it is mounted to a wall. Between the wall it has 2-3 inches of space and i have a thin monster hdmi cable. I was wondering if its okay to bend it that much

Be careful, but then an HDMI cable shouldn't cost more than $8 or it is a ripoff. Because they are digital, they either work or they don't, there is no better or worse in between that. They send data that is made of 1's and 0's, and if they don't all get there, the signal doesn't make sense and will not come on, or be very messed up. So if you see a picture with no obvious flaws like big lines or flashing areas, you have a perfect picture. Most stores rip you off charging $20 or more, but go to newegg or some other site and get properly priced ones, and if you break it, not that expensive for another one.
I'm a home theater enthusiast and do picture and sound calibrations. All my HDMI cables were $4.99 each from newegg.
They DO make HDMI cables that have 90 degree ends, that plug in at an angle so they don't need to bend. They won't likely be as cheap but may solve your issue.

I'd be VERY careful bending an HDMI cable. Inside that cable is very delicate fiber optics, if you bend it too much it will break. If it's bending it enough where it's making a crease/indent in the wire I wouldn't do it, but if it's just a slight bend, it will probably be fine. Best of luck!

You can get HDMI elbow adapters.
Be prepared for a bit of price-tag shock.

It should be fine unless you start seeing distortions or problems with your video.
