I already have my macbook and I know I can just connect it to my tv, but I can't do that every time my family wants to watch a movie and I need my laptop for work/school.

We have an xbox 360, but that requires paying for a monthly membership. I don't want anything fancy, just a device I can use to stream netflix.

Does anyone know of a cheap bluray player or anything else that works pretty well and doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks!

Roku is your best bet, and even their cheapest streaming boxes have Netflix. Plan in spending around $40 for the basic model - you can pick them up at WalMart.

Chromecast, but that requires a phone or a tablet to act as controller.

If you need a completely standalone, I'd say Roku too.
