The USB ports on your STB are not active as of now. They are there for future use. The reason they are there now is so when the are avaliable you woun't have to get a new STB and reprogram all your info. When the features are useable you will get a message in your message center. To access the message center go to (with your FIOS remote) Menu then arrow down to messages and press OK. If you have any you will see them there.

Nothing yet. They are there because the CPU chip in the box has USB, and it is cheaper to install the sockets at manufacture, even if they don't get used, rather than not at all and have to replace boxes and discard or modify them after the fact, should a use arise.

USB means "Universal Serial Bus", and It can be used for a variety of objects that have USB plugs, such as flash drives, cords for some cell phones, etc. An example of a USB plug: http://help.bluebones.net/img/usb_plug.jpg
