I saw lg's remote and I want to know why they used magic as an adjective for it. What can it actually do?

It can't turn you into a frog :) Maybe because you use it like a wand. For example, if you use it in selecting the app you like, you just have to point at the app icon and click. It's pretty much easy to use but what I really like about it is that it has fewer buttons. Nothing like the old remote.

The whole idea behind the "Magic Remote" from LG is that it provides an onscreen pointer for you to access menus and type using an onscreen keyboard easily. It is very similar to a Wii Remote if you have used one. It really shouldn't be described as "Magic" being that all it is is a glorified remote pointer for the television. Although compared to some manufacturers that provide keyboards built into the television remote, I prefer the LG's because the keys on the television remotes with keyboards are so small and I have large fingers it's difficult to type quickly and efficiently. The pointer is very accurate and can easily be re-calibrated to the television. A little side note, the user interface is designed to be easily accessible and navigated the LG remote itself is very simple to operate and not covered in a million buttons thus making operating the television that much easier if you're not savvy to navigating the television menus, options, etc.

A wand? It's more like the wii controller. It still functions like our old remote but with additional features. Some lg tvs have voice recognition feature. These tvs include a magic remote with a mic which I think is more convenient than having the mic on the actual tv. This way the voice is captured more accurately.

Ill just add on to whatever everyone else said on here. The best thing I find about the remote is the "point n click" type function. It just makes using the smart TV platform very easy and fun. I do however prefer a button remote when changing settings such as brightness, etc.

If you've used wii-mote from Nintendo, then you'll have better idea since they work pretty much the same in terms of pointing moving around. The magic remote ones have fewer buttons so that it make it easier to navigate (ironically this makes sense somehow) and they have better interface. And it has better design. Hope it helped.
