Not the Apple TV but an actual TV set. And if they make one will it be better than every TV out there right now?

Apple's business model is to make things that haven't been made before, or else make them so much better than previous attempts that people are willing to pay the "Apple tax." They don't sell a lot of volume (iPhone excepted, but even there, iPhone sales are a tiny percentage of mobille phone sales), making it up on high profit margins.

But the TV market is already completely mature. TVs are already sold with the best available technology and great styling for a high price, and with somewhat lower picture quality and fewer features for lower prices, the latter with razor-thin margins. There just isn't anything for Apple to innovate and there is no room in the market for their boutique-brand pricing strategy.

Of course, a few of the Apple faithful would buy them. (I have no doubt that there are a few of the Apple faithful who would follow Steve Jobs off of a cliff if he asked.) That doesn't mean it's a good business plan.

Anyway, the first Apple TV box was a dud in the market and based on its very limited and closed capabilities I'll bet the new one is too. With that history I doubt they would be trying another product in that field anytime soon.

I wonder the same thing. The only rational conclusion that I can think of is that no one would buy them. Apple generally does make quality, but pricey items. Plus they would have to deal with Sony, Panasonic, and Samsung. They have been in the tv market for years. Just look at the new HD-3D TV in stores. It would be pretty hard for Apple to compete with that. Basically, there's no room for newcomers in an advanced TV market and economy such as this.

It will be twice as expensive as any TV out there right now, that's for sure. That's the Apple way.
