Sayno v.s. Insignia?

So at random the other day I went out and bought a Sanyo 42" LCD HDTV from Wal-mart. I did some research and it seemed like a decent set for a decent price ($948). Here are the specs:
TV Technology: LCD
TV Definition: HDTV
HDMI: Yes
Screen Size: 42"
Brightness: 500 cd/m2
Contrast: 1500:1
Response Time: 8ms
Dimensions with Stand: 41.3"W x 29.7"H x 10.2"D
HD-Ready: Yes
DVI: N
Widescreen: Yes

Now I'm looking at Best Buy's Insignia model's doing some comparing. First of all, is Insignia a reputable brand? The model I'm interested in is a 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV ($996.99). Here are it's specs:
Ratio16:9
Display TypeFlat-panel LCD
Built-In_DVR No
Digital Cable Ready No
Digital Capabilities HD built-in
Maximum Resolution1920 x 1080
Vertical Scanning Lines1080p
Contrast Ratio1200:1
Brightness500 cd/m²

What I'm getting at is whether or not a Insignia 1080p @ 1200:1 better than a Sanyo 720p @ 1500:1 for another $50?

Insignia is a Best Buy private label, and thus is only available from Best Buy.

Sanyo is a repitable brand, although it's not the best (Sony and Samsung are at the top, slightly below Panasonic, i.m.o.)

With a 42" there's a big difference between 1080p and 720p. I would say you would gain more by going with the 1080p TV, even though Insignia isn't the best brand in the world. The Sanyo does have a better contrast ratio, but if you're going to get an HDTV you're almost cheating yourself by only going with 720p, especially with a larger TV like that.

I would recommend looking at both of them in person in the store(s) and deciding based on what you see, rather than the specs.

Wouldn't hurt to ask Best Buy if they have any "Open Item" Insignia models available...which means they were returned. If you see a lot more Insignia models returned, you might want to look at other brands.

I'm not impressed by either one....

But if that's ALL you can AFFORD....

The OLEVIA can actually provide you with a 1080 Picture....

And that's WHY you bought the Blu-Ray AND PS3 .....isn't it?

God, I can't believe I'm actually suggesting an Olevia over a Sanyo.....or vice versa...
