I'm having trouble deciding which to get. I don't care about the price of these two TV's, just quality. Which would you recommend? The Samsung Plasma 8500, or the Sony LED W900A?

Samsung 8500: http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/PN64F8500AFXZA

Sony W900A: ttp://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666519123

Ok - Sony has gone downhill in quality over the last 2 years. Avoid Sony televisions.

If you are a gamer - a Plasma is the better technology. And a Panasonic Plasma tends to be the best.

For most general TV watching and movies - the higher end LCD/LED with at least 120 hz refresh are pretty good.

That 8500 should be good and I suspect you can get it in either Plasma or LCD/LED.

LED is better in a bright room... Plasma is better in a dark or dim room.

Plasma also has some advantages over LED... Plasma has very dark blacks and also no motion blur during fast scenes.

LED is the average TV most people have in their house.... LED is good for any lighting conditions in the room.

As for which is better... professional reviews I've seen rate Plasma TV's the highest for best picture quality overall, especially certain Panasonic plasmas. Note the deep blacks, no motion blur and better viewing angles as several major reasons the plasmas are rated highest.

If money is no factor, I'd say get the highest rated TV for picture quality on Cnet.com:

Plasma TV's have a far richer colour depth, they are better than LED backlit TV's.

the difference being the higher running costs of the plasma, as they require more power to run than a LED/LCD screen.

the best thing to do if your undecided is to go into a store that sell TV's and have a look at them. dont go by clarity of image on the TV's in stores because they can be on a lossy system that will not represent the actual image quality you will get. instead look for the brightess and feild of view (look at the TV's from the sides and see how far you can go before colours start to get lost)

I'd say LED tv because plasma tvs dont last long and could suffer from burn ins. They have higher refresh rates though.

consider a 80 inch 3d smart tv from this brand.

And plasma tvs cant show white very well, so your room must be really dark. Led tvs can work well in dark rooms. But the image may look different from different viewing angles. But plasma tvs all look the same from all angles.

LEd tvs last about three times longer than plasma tvs.
