I figured cable TV is expensive (cox cable) and I want to cancel my cable service and keep my internet and. Phone.
We only really use cable TV watching bobs burgers, and watching basketball games really... So that's another factor to cancel cable..
After I cancel the cable what is good to subscribe to? We have Netflix.. Would a roku be a good thing to get? I have a ps3 I watch Netflix and crunchy roll on.
Is there a service I can stream regular TV from?
And my basketball games, I am probably going to buy a wireless Google cromecast and subscribe to nba league pass and stream from my computer to the TV.
Is there anyone else that does this ? Watch TV only through subscribing to streaming services? I need suggestions thanks!!

The Rolu is a great thing to buy. It also doesn't cost any money every month. There is even free channels such as crackel as well.

As for services sign up for Netflix, Amazon Prime and then hulu in that order. Get an attena but make sure the range is correct from where the tv stations tower are from you. You can find this infomation on the internet throught the ftc.

You can also get a plex server and watch a lot of cable tv shows for free.

I for one do not subcribe to cable tv. Cable tv is really a dinosaur so unless your a espn fanatic it not worth the money.

Check out the link below it has a lot information about getting rid of cable.

It sounds to me like you have already answered your own question. The first step is to get rabbit ears for your flat screen. I know it is primitive but the picture is sharper than cable because the signal is uncompressed.

Then You hook up your laptop to your tv with an HDMI cable assuming your computer has an Hdmi port.

You can stream Netflix through your ps3 as well as through a Roku device. I believe that Roku has a monthly subscription however. I just bought a blu-ray player with WIFI and I can stream anything through that. The drawback to all this is you have to wait for tv shows to be available on HULU or Amazon Instant video. I usually wait for the season to run it's course and then purchase the whole season. Nba league pass is perfect for sports fans. Streaming through your laptop or blu-ray/gaming device is the way of the future and it is scaring cable companies to death. I cancelled my cable over 18 months ago and I do not miss it at all. I also use a wireless keyboard and mouse that hook to my computer's USB ports. I watch all the news over the internet now. Regular broadcasts bore me because I cannot control what I am watching. In conclusion, With a laptop hooked up to your flat screen and a wifi enabled gaming device you can see almost everything and save a huge amount of money. I also get the fastest possible internet available and use an Ethernet cable to hard wire my devices. I got a 66% increase in speed with Brighthouse. I hope this helps.

Before chopping your cable service, how are you getting on the Internet? Through the same cable provider? If yes, beware that they don't jack up the cost for Internet. Comcast tried that on me a few years ago, raising my Internet access almost double when I inquired about cutting off the TV channels. (I'm no longer with Comcast.)

If you to cut your entire cable bill, there are other options for Internet: DSL, U-verse, etc. And they'll probably be cheaper.

Other than that, just get a very good antenna for your major TV networks and an online service (Netflix and others) for anything else that you might want and are willing to pay for.

Absolutely. There are so many fantastic devices and services on the market - like the Roku and the Chromecast. Also, you can even stream live TV through services like Aereo. It's a pretty awesome future we live in.

+1 for bgr.

I dropped cable for Roku + Netflix over a year ago. Saved over $1,000 so far, and all the entertainment I can watch, plus NO COMMERCIALS. I'm never going back to paying for TV!

While it's true that some t.v. programs are better at informing and portraying than catalogs, catalogs in themselves are an escape. I personally would have a reserve over t.v.
