Should I buy an extended warranty for a 42" LG (brand) TV? The 5yr warranty is $500. Any advice out there?

I would recommend getting it. Eventhough LG comes with a 2 year warranty.

But, ask some questions first.

Is this a performance garuntee (sp? I'm tired) or does the extended warranty just cover parts and labor?

Does it cover things such as power surge?

Does it cover dead pixels?

Does it cover the backlight bulbs?

If the answer is yes, then I would definitely get it.

The average cost of repair for a flat panel is twice, sometimes three times that. So the cost of keeping it in working order for $500 is worth it IMO.

From my experience in purchasing from Circuit City, they do cover these things. I'm not sure on BB extended warranty. (Which they do not get commission anymore BTW)

These are rip offs. Most of these EW don't cover the basic AND important things when a repair is in need. Not to mention the price is way too much. All LG TVs come with a 2-year factory warranty. EW are just easy profit for the retailer, nothing more.

Extended warranty's are a rip-off

Best buy employee's gets 5% overcost on everything and a $50 extented warranty is $5 for an employee!

They play the odd's and I think you should too LG makes great product.

I will buy the warrenty if it's a LCD. Once a LCD has a "dead pixel", the LCD is beyond repair, or I shall say it's still repairable, however, will cost about the same price of the price u brought it. If it's a Plasma, maybe I won't buy the wwarrenty. =)

Depends on what the TV cost. Do you have a flat panel or a projector?
