my son likes older video games, like the 80's types so i bought him one of those "plug n play" games that has a joystick and can play several games by just plugging it into an audio - video jack

i have a toshiba 32 inch hd tv 720p

would these games harm that tv at all?

i heard that certain games can harm tv's, older ones any way but what about the newer ones??

No. Your TV will be just fine.

It is possible for games of ANY age to harm a TV, but only if the game is left on & paused for a RIDICULOUS amount of time. The problem arises when a static image (one that does not change) is displayed on the screen for a long time. The TV will still work, but the image will be "burned in" and a "ghost" of it will be visible regardless of what is being displayed on it. This is only a big problem for rear projection TVs, black & white CRT TVs, and REALLY old color CRTs. They can get burn-in in a matter of hours. Plasma screens can get it as well, but not as easily. It is possible for LCDs to get burn-in, but good quality LCDs are not NEARLY as susceptible as cheaper ones. Occasionally, I watch Netflix on my VIZIO 32" LCD TV at night, and I fall asleep before I get the chance to turn it off, so once the movie ends, the interface shows up and stays there all night. When I wake up, I turn my TV to the VGA input to check on my server, and there's a faint ghost of the Netflix interface, but it goes away after a while. After 30 minutes, the ghost is gone, but on more expensive LCDs, it may take less time or it might not even ghost at ALL.

Bottom line, your TV will be OK, just tell your son not to leave it paused too long, and that if he MUST leave it on for a long time, then he should turn off the TV.

as long as you haven't any longer have been given a similar frozen image on the reveal screen for a protracted volume of time, you could no longer harm the television. different than that, the only actual way a vidio game can harm a television is that if your enjoying wii bowling devoid of the wrist strap, yet that doesn't incredibly prepare to this
