Got to go plasma if you want the best quality picture (and who wouldn't?). The lack of a backlght makes the blacks blacker so the contrast is much better - it's more like going to the cinema. The new LED 'LCDs' could be a good alternative for picture quality, but still pricey. Panasonic is my current favourite - all the user reviews give it a thumbs up.

Plasma.!! By far a better, brighter picture. Some of the best features of plasma are the fast response, (no blur on fast moving objects) no burn-in with latest technology of pixel swapping or 'orbiting', and an incredible viewing angle of 170 degrees or so with no change in pic quality or color.!! Try that on your LCD.!! I like Samsung and Panasonic, Philips..

What used to be the case is any television over the 32' it was recommended you had a plasma television for the better quality and anything under the 32' you should have a LCD television.
Although the LCD televisions have always been cheaper they have become much better and the LCD or the plasma are now an option at any size and the plasma tv has come right down in price.
I own a samsung plasma 42' television and the picture quality is amazing.
The LG plasmas also have amazing pictures.
The best thing to do is to go into somewhere such as comet or currys and have a look at the televisions. There you can see the picture.
Then come home and buy it off the internet (much cheaper)

Panasonic Viera TC-P42G10. Go online to Home Theater magazine and read the review. It was compared to the Toshiba Regza 42ZV650U (LCD), Vizio SV420M (LCD), LG 42LH40 (LCD) and the Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100 (LCD). Go to Best Buy and demo the tv. I have been eying the 54" model to replace my LCD tv purchased in 2006 that's already burned out. Hope this will help you.

Well, 63% of the population prefer plasmas. There are plenty of good reasons for that.

I say go with LCD, ive heard from friends that plasma has way too many issues and problems, plus, i, myself, have an LCD screen, 50 inch, love it, especially for sports. but if you're still unsure, definitely compare them at:
from my experience with these technologies any can have problems at any given time...I personally seen many problems with the Samsung Brand and Sony brand.. If you want a brand that doesn't really have problems your looking at the best of the best PIONEER ELITE...
as far as the better technology... Research shows that the plasma technology is better all around( sound and vision magazine, consumer report<
when you go looking for a teleivion i just want you to do one thing ... Think common sense...THink logical..
if the salesman says this lcd is good it has 120hz and 240 hz... ask them whats produced in that refresh rate?
ask them whats the problem with 120 and 240... they are prolli going to say nothing and try to show you a demo on the display... ask them to pop in a blu ray movie and turn the 120 and 240 and then you will see its downfalls....
Next ask them if theres no problems with it and me as a consumer dont want to see a lag why do i want the option of turning that feature on and off..
See the Gimmicks LCD's Play plasmas are by far better than lcd

Personally I would buy LCD. Plasma Tv's are great dont get me wrong but LCD Tv's continue to lead the way. A recent survey in the US indicated LCD Tv's out sold plasmas by 10 to 1.
Not only that plasma TV's use a lot more energy that an LCD making an LCD more environmently friendly.
