Digital Cable delivers digital content, while Cable TV (not Digital) will deliver analog. Digital delivers much better picture quality and contrast, and since it is digital, meaning it is data and not changes in amplitude and frequencies (the way analog works), the signal can be compressed. That allows more information to be sent out, which is why HD is possible.
Digital or Analog Cable is fine since cable companies are private and don't have to change to digital anytime soon. Quality-wise I'd go with Digital, and it'll be quite ready for HD if you plan to go that route anytime soon.

Digital Cable is a cable through your house that comes from your local company. Dish is a satellite communication with the network that is transmitted trough space. digital cable cost more. $65. I just switched to them from Direct TV. direct TV was $43. I switched because they offered a special deal-$25 off each month for 16 months. now the Price is the same. The difference is the package came with all the Encore channels and a few learning channels. after 16 months I will look for a deal with Direct TV or Dish. Their is always a good deal. Just keep your eyes open and you will find one. They all have features better than the other and the have features worse than the other.

With digital I get more channels, around 400. The only thing I don't like is sometimes the box overheats or the tv says I don't have cable service, even though I pay it on time every month. Also, with digital you can get pay per views and hdtv channels. I have digital and despite the high price and many disconnections, I like it.

you will receive digital broadcast from your Cable provider. The real distinction is that TV stations are switching signals from analog to digital in June of 2009. If further you are in need of further detail concerning this go to dtv.gov

Digital has much better quality.
Only with digital you can get HD (bit not all digital is HD).
