We purchased a 46 inch Samsung flat screen TV for Christmas. I think that everything looks wide and squatty--all the people look wider than normal. Is there a setting that I need to change, or am I loosing it? The rest of the family seems to be fine with this distortion. The wideness bothers me.

You need to go into the aspect ratio menu which should come under the picture settings. Press the menu button and select picture settings and change this ratio to 16:9 or Auto. This should adjust the picture so that the image fits the screen better.

relies upon on the component ratio of the DVD. no longer all widescreen DVD's use the comparable ratio, so some could have bars. The ratio for widescreen television's is sixteen:9 and maximum widescreen DVD's are sixteen:9 ensuing in no black bars.

Try checking the settings on the tv. If you have digital cable check the settings on there sometimes it gets set to "stretch".

On your remote there may be a button that says zoom. Press it until the picture is optimal.
