So Walmart is selling a 32 inch Funai brand tv for $99. I never heard of this brand so I was kind of skeptical about its reliability. I don't want to go home with a defective or crappy TV. Should I go for it, or choose another TV?

NO! Funai has been around for years, and many "old school" brands, such as Magnavox, are made by Funai. Their market is entry level, and if you waste your time at Walmart to get one for $99 on Thanksgiving - you will be the real turkey!

Realistically this company now makes many major brands like Magnavox,Emerson,& Slyvania not to mention a couple others. This tv will be just fine. I bought a black friday tv last year and it worked perfectly fine until I broke the screen due to carelessness! And in all actuality it only cost $98. Even if it did only last for a year you got your money's worth. Besides I'm pretty sure Walmart has some kind of return/warranty policy where you can at the very least get another tv. Do some research on the company and you'll see that they are a major player in the US/Canada, just because the logo on the front of the tv says Funai doesn't make it any less good than say a Magnavox! I'll be going to get my $98 tv Thursday, I don't have $400 for a big name brand tv that honestly on the inside is all the same anyway!

Considering that WalMart and other such stores sell these TV's by the hundreds of thousands they are probably much more reliable overall than people think. The biggest problem I have with these cheap TV's is that often the sound quality on them is poor, not a lot of volume, etc. My wife and I bought an 'Element' brand TV from WalMart two years ago, a 46" TV for $399 which at the time was below dirt cheap. We have used the daylights out of it, it's probably on ten hours a day and other than the low quality sound it's still fine. (You can always pump the audio output to a stereo etc. and that takes care of the sound problem.)

Funai has been around for years. I bought an AC/DC TV/VCR Funai for my van 20 years ago and it still works. However like any TV, it can crap out tomorrow or last years. Someone mentions LG. LG is crap. I work on HDTV's on the side and I see more LG's than any other.. My boss gave me his LG. It was 13 months old. 1 month out of warranty. I put a new PS in it at $70 and it's been good for now. If I had to pick, it would be Panasonic or Toshiba. I might try to pick on of these up. Probably will end up with a raincheck. Obviously Alan doesn't understand Walmart's guaranteed items as you will eventually get one of these if you are there on Tgiving at 6 waiting in line for this TV.

I just purchased mine for $98. Pretty affordable if you ask me, and I waited in no lines. I'll repeat that, NO LINES. I'm guessing, like most other electronics, you have at least the basic warranty...So if it craps out tomorrow, you're covered. But for 98 bucks, you can't really go wrong. Especially if you're using it as a back up tv..and not your primary. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. It's pretty obvious that Walmart isn't going to give away the top-notch tv's for a hundred bucks. As long as this LED TV lasts me at least a year or two, I'll be a happy camper. And you should too. :)

It depends on how much you'll use it.. Im buying the same one tonight but Ill only use it a hand full of times a year... If you plan on using this TV as your primary set its probably not going to last more than a couple years.. If you can afford a little more go for the Samsung set for $227 at Walmart on Friday or the $227 Samsung at Target which looks a little better than the Walmart Samsung... Remember, you get what you pay for and your not paying much for the Walmart $99 set

Someone already made a good point in that for $98, why are you expecting a tv that will last for years to come? I looked into the company and they guarantee their tvs for 5 years. You have to register it on their site. I'm going to buy one of these tvs and if I get a good year or two, I won't complain.

These people are not answering your question. If you're an avid TV user than no. If this will be a secondary TV which is occasionally used and plan to last a couple years than absolutely. I have Samsung, Sony, Vizio, and Sharp flatscreens. I use my Samsung and Sony TV's in the main rooms (bedroom, living room) while the Sharp is in the Kitchen and downstairs (occasional usage). SO if this will be the primary TV in the household No it isn't recommended to depend on this Funai TV..

Just remember that Wal Mart has a 15 day return policy on it's electronics. So if you buy a TV now and then open to find it DOA or if it messes up at any point within an assumed month from opening it, you won't be able to return it. This happened to us last year when we bought my nephew a Nook and put it in lay away. They counted the day we put it in lay away, not the day we picked it up. It was DOA and they wouldn't let us return it, we had to go to Nook for the replacement.

I plan on getting this $98 television as well just as a set for my spare bedroom. I'm not sure how reliable it is BUT I am getting the 2 year warranty with it. It's probably going to be an extra $10 or so but I think it would be worth it.
