Admittedly the glasses are more expensive but I got 2 pairs free with the TV and got two more for 30 pound each, there are robust and are all working fine over a year later.
3D is a big hit and here to stay!

I would not recommend active 3D. Go to your local electronics store and try it out yourself. The 3D glasses flicker, and I get headaches from it. Also, if you tilt your head to the side, the picture will no longer be viewable (for those who watch TV while lying down). With that said, I feel that passive 3D is much better (and safer). Out of all the passive 3DTV brands, LG seems to be the best right now.
And to the above poster, even if you're only getting half the vertical lines in each eye, I'm still seeing a full HD picture because each half will create a full picture in the brain. I've watched movies with an LG 3DTV that a friend owns, and I really don't notice a reduction in resolution at all.

3D technology has not been a big hit due to the high cost and lack of software support. Keep in mind that to watch in 3D you will need the following: 3D HDTV, 3D blu ray disc player or a game console, 3D blu ray disc movie or video game and 3D glasses. At this time there are only around 120 title is blu ray and they are mainly animated movies from disney. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs, along with the pro and con of each technology. If you read yahoo questions all the time, you will notice that 95% of tv problems comes from LCD or LED tv and 95% of those are the bargain price tv. Panasonic would be my choice brand in Plasma. Hope this will help you out.

I sell tvs for a living, don't listen to the person above me saying 3d tvs arnt a big hit. 8 out of 10 that i sell are 3d. The reason for that it that any of the better sets just have it. People are not coming in just for the 3d, but they realize that any of the better quality tvs will just have it. Most of the people will never even use it. The actual software they use to make a tv do 3d only cost them like $10 to put in so now a days your not paying any extra for the 3d, your paying because your getting a better tv.

I would definitely recommend you to get the LG8600. Samsung TVs are awesome TVs as well, but it lacks one crucial component that I think is a must, Passive 3D technology. Samsung still seems to use Active 3D. If you lose your pair of 3D glasses, be ready to pay a hefty price for another pair. Image quality of the TV is pretty comparable between Samsung and LG, but the design for the LG is way more elegant than Samsung TVs.
