PS3 component cables won't work with HD tv?

I have an older model PS3 that hooks up to an 720p HD tv in my room via component cables, I've never had an HDMI cable for it, but it does work through the component. I got a new Samsung LCD HDTV that does have component connections in the back, so I plugged in the PS3 that way, and I can't get a picture to come up at all. I used an HDMI cable with the PS3 on the new tv and the picture worked. I know the component cables aren't broken and plugged in right because I used them less than a day ago. I made sure the tv was on the component setting too. Is there something wrong with the new tv? Do newer tvs not really support component anymore? If it helps any, it's a Samsung series 550 LCD tv.

Newer televisions are required by law to "plug the analog hole" known as component video. They don't allow you to send anything except standard definition video to a TV. What might be occurring is you're telling the PS3 to output 1080i or 720p, but the TV won't allow anything other than 480i or 480p with component video. Try a lower resolution setting with the component cables.

If it doesn't work, make sure you plugged the right colors into the right inputs. If that still doesn't work, the cables might be bad or there might be something wrong with the TV's component inputs.

Those 2 guys were confusing me make sure your television has hdmi enter on the back it should if its hd in a position get element cables are those that got here with ps3 composite cables are for HD however cant be used with ps3 those are the 5 wires blue purple yellow white ex go buy a HDMI cable price from $20 to $80 i have the affordable $20 and no issues join it to the television and ps3 with both turned off first flip the television on and switch enter from video like you were using to HDMI then activate the ps3.. Ps3 will see you're related by way of hdmi and will ask you to change you simplest have 30 seconds to take action that is why i stated flip the tv first and have it on hdmi.. As soon as the ps3 is on hdmi for those who desired to go back to the element cables (ones that came with ps3) say you took ps3 to a acquaintances residence hook it up and with it on within the again however off in front maintain down vigor within the front for five seconds it's going to reset to element

Did you change the ps3's output setting to component? HDtvs work fine with component so it's not the tv. Also be sure you set the ps3 to 720p.

Also, when you say component are you referring to the red/green/blue video + red/white audio? If so, it should work.

Make sure in the back of tv,the component cable,is in the input holes, might mistaken the holes with out put,so check the back of tv for 2 sets of components holes, good luck.
