The cheapest is a plasma tv. LCD and LED consumes less energy over a year period but it's not a real big amount of money. LED is a new comer and the price is still higher than the other two. LCD and LED have motion blurness when watching fast action sport, which Plasma does not. For the money I would buy a Plasma TV and with the money you save buy a Blue Ray disc player and still have money left over. A 50" 1080P Plasma is under $1,300 at Costco with an additional year of warranty and 90 days return policy for $45 membership fee for 1 year. It's just a matter of taste. Go demo one at a retail store and spend 15 minutes on each one writing the pro's and con's for each one, your eyes and ears are the best judge on this. Hope this helps and good luck.

Currently LED and LCD are the same type of television. The difference is that a traditional LCD uses CCFL as a backlight light source. LED LCDs use LEDs as a backlight. There's your difference. The LED lights help improve the contrast, color, and blacks of the LCD TV. But it comes at a steep price premium.

LCDs, of any kind, are inherently bad a fast motion. They suffer from motion blur (ghost trails). This is compensated for with 120Hz and 240Hz refresh rate TVs. And the feature does help a lot (though it doesn't entirely fix the issue). But again you pay a huge price premium for this feature.

Plasma has a near instantaneous refresh rate, so it is inherently great a playing back fast motion. Plasma will give you better blacks, color, and contrast over an LCD (even an LED). They are even cheaper than LCDs with all the fancy tech specs. Plasma is your best image quality.

Plasma mainly suffers from myths and misconceptions now. They do not suffer burn-in anymore. They work in high altitudes. They do not have short life spans (most are 100,000 hours, so better than most LCDs). They are no longer energy hogs, you can get energy star certified models now.

In terms of energy saving, no technology is best. You have to look at each model separately. There are good and bad models from all technologies. Anyone who just says all LCDs are better or all Plasmas are better doesn't actually know anything.

Cheaper, again, Plasma is cheaper if you consider the video quality. A 'comparable' LCD will be way more because you have to pay for LED and 120Hz/240Hz refresh rates.

TV size matters though. 1080p, LED LCD, 120Hz/240Hz refresh rate, and Plasma vs LCD are all dependent on size. If you're going 37" or smaller, than a 'basic' LCD will serve you fine. You don't get the advantages of all those other things in smaller sets. If you get some of the 'high end' tech features in a smaller set, hey great, it can't hurt. But its not worth paying for. The advantages of those things I've listed kick in around 40" and moreso 50".

For Plasma stick with Panasonic. They will give you the best quality bang for the dollar. If they just aren't you're cup of tea you can settle with Samsung or LG then.

If you do decide to go LCD, stick with the S's. Samsung, Sony, and Sharp Aquos are all your friend. Samsung is the leader of the pack though these days. But any of those S's will serve you well. You can also consider Toshiba and LG. OH, if you go with a smaller LCD, 37" or smaller, then look to Panasonic. They make really great LCDs in the mid/small sizes.

They are all good tv's, it's your own personal usage that will dictate what's better. Go to a retail store and demo the product and spend at less 15 minutes each on each one and write the pro's and con's. Here's a few facts, Pioneer Elite plasma is the best TV in the market, but the price for a 50" is in the $5,000 range. LCD and LED suffers from motion blurnes on fast action sports, 120 HZ and 240 HZ does minimize the problem but also comes at a higher price. LED price is higher than the LCD. LCD and LED does consume less energy but not noticeable if you don't watch tv more than 5 hours a day. TV's displayed at retail store are adjusted to the max for better picture due to the amount of light in the store. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read reviews on Plasma, LCD and soon LED. I personnal have 2 Plasma TV's in my home and no complain at all. High definition or full high def. 720P or 1080P, you won't be able to tell the difference on tv screen small than 46" and the 1080P is at extra cost. Blue Ray disc movies are the only source of 1080P in the market now. If you watch alot of movies (dvd or Blue ray) and watch sports the Plasma tv is better, LCD is better if you use it to play games from your computer or games console. Your own eyes are the best judge.

LCD uses an array of liquid crystals and electrical pulses to change the shapes of the crystals, which let certain colors of light through. Fluorescent backlight behind this layer of crystals supplies the light. This type of TV can be built quite thin and lightweight and offers good brightness and can easily be built to support high resolutions, but it can suffer from dead pixels, sometimes has a fairly narrow viewing angle, suffers from limited contrast and black levels, doesn't always offer the best color fidelity, and tends to be a bit on the expensive side.

LED is basically just a LCD TV that uses an LED backlight instead of a fluorescent one. This allows it to be built even thinner and offer much better color fidelity, but it makes the TV even more expensive, although it uses less electricity than regular LCD.

Plasma uses gases which have electric charge passed through them, causing them to excite phosphors on the back of the screen, which will instantaneously release light of a certain color depending on the gas. These TV's are a little thicker and heavier than LCD's but can still be wall-mounted and generally are only a few inches thick at most. Compared to LCD, they offer excellent picture quality in terms of response time (how fast the individual pixels can change color), have excellent color and contrast, and can display black almost perfectly. They have excellent viewing angles, but their brightness is limited and their glass screens reflect more light than LCD/LED, and as such aren't as well-suited for bright rooms. They also use much more electricity than LCD TV's and the 1080p models can be very pricey. Plasma TV's are not available in small screen sizes, and most are 42 inches or bigger.

In terms of pure picture quality, my favorite would be the plasma. And if it's a smaller size, I would actually probably take a CRT (tube TV) before an LCD given the option.

heat: hottest will be plasma, then lcd then led

chea[est to run: LED, lcd then plasma

if u watch sport a lot, plasma renders the fast action smoothing

lcd for computerish stuff- clearer detail

led all rounder- better picture quality but the most expensive

i wo8uld go for a led if u have the money or wait until the prices drop. it is still relatively new tech.

LED TV is the most energy-efficient and cheapest TV today. The reason why they are energy-efficient and cheap because these TVs are made of Light-emitting diode; a cheap material for prodcuing light.

LCD and Plasma are both expensive. Just get an LED TV.

i dont know too much on LED TVs, but i do know that LCD is a better choice over plasma. they are cheaper, last longer, and the picture quality is almost equal to plasma. ive heard plasma screens are too delicate.

Plasma have better picture than lcd but not good for bright room and some time have burn-in problem

LCD can not reach plasma for picture quality but come with thinner set,not burn-in,less power consumption and last longer

LED is the lastest technology for hdtv.Stunning picture with mega dynamic contrast ratio, very thin and 40% less power consumption that other hdtv.

Personally I would go with LED tv but if you want cheaper than LCD is a good choice.
