This is a display resolution issue. The message means that the TV does not support the resolution which the HDMI output of the computer is currently sending. If you connect the TV to the computer, turn the TV on first, then reboot the computer it could fix itself. But if not then it may need the procedures other are suggesting to fix the resolution. For HDMI the display (TV) should always be connected and on first so that the HDMI source (computer video card) can sense what kind of display it is connected to and initialize the HDMI correctly if auto sensing circuitry is involved.

Do not roll back your drivers. You need to change the display resolution that your laptop is sending out to your tv. Go to Control Panel then Display, click on Adjust Resolution. You may need to look in your tv manual to determine the resolutions that your tv supports and then set it to that resolution through your laptop. Also, just make sure you have the tv on the correct input/channel to view the incoming connection.

check your drivers? if youve upgraded the video drivers recently then roll back the driver to the previous version and check it again. Could just be something as simple as a bad HDMI cord. Plug the cord in and check to see if the computer recognizes the TV, might have to go into your Display settings and manually set up Dual Monitor support

Go into the display/video settings and change the resolution/bpp/hz.
