I've recently bought 2 Logik L24FED12 TVs and each time I try and put in a DVD, the player won't work :/. I've tried putting the label facing both at the back and front of the TV. Yet, it still won't play the dvd! However, I have also tried to try all the different settings to get the DVD to play, still nothing seems to be working!

Can anyone help me? Much appreciated!

If your tv is still within its guarantee period (at least 12 months) then take it back to the shop and request a repair free of charge. Don't try dismantling it.

The Sale of Goods Act makes it the dealer's responsibility to arrange repairs within a reasonable time (that is, you should not have to wait more than a couple of weeks) and they must not make any charge or tell you to arrange it yourself.

If it is out of guarantee then the best thing you can do is to take it to the recycling bank and then buy a new one. This is for two very good reasons:

1) There are no reliable tv/dvd combination units. They are all notoriously unreliable regardless of the manufacturer. The DVD player is usually the first part to fail and they are not user repairable.

2) Logik is one of the family of cheap "brands" which are known to be very unreliable in their own right. These televisions are not built by "proper" tv manufacturers. They are just assembled from low-cost low-quality components and then have a label attached. Other "brands" to avoid include: Alba, Bush, Baird, Beko, Celcus, Goodmans, Grundig, Technika, Tevion, Wharfedale, and any other "supermarket brand".

The best thing for an economical DVD/TV set up is to buy an inexpensive model from a reputable manufacturer such as Sharp (low cost and basic but very reliable) and a separate cheap £30 DVD player from Tesco. The DVD player may last for a couple of years before you have to replace it - and the telly will still be working.

I 've had two occasions where the DVD did n't work on a Logik TV dvd combo. The first was a tiny fragment of a disc had broken off and the second was the dust sleave from the entrance to DVDs unit had got stuck inside. The error code on the TV said disc not working, check to see if compatible. I found the cause by first of all checking different dvd's, then checking settings then looking and listening to operation of DVD unit. In first case there was a screeching sound and second case the dvd was'nt rotating. In both cases I had to open up TV to remove object. Only do this if competent with electrical devices. I am a qualified electrician so I knew how to safely do this. Always turn off power then remove plug when opening up equipment also avoid touching the electronics. Lastly it could be the electronics or mechanisms within the tv or dvd which, as said above would mean getting a new tv.

These are TVs with built in DVD players, yes? If so, get rid of them.

All TV / DVD combos are notoriously unreliable and the DVD player always fails (as you have found). The cheap and nasty 'brands' (like Logik) are the worst. You have bought two TV / DVD combos, where the DVD players had failed, which is why they were being sold. Repairing them will cost you more than buying something decent instead.

The same thing happened when I first got mine. Try pushing the DVD in just that little bit further. It took me pushing it about a centimetre further in than I thought, before it would take up the disc. You're getting "no disc" errors right? Put the label side in the way it tells you to.
