I just purchased an LG 60" plasma and the new Bell 6400 HD satellite receiver. I get picture, but no audio when hooked up with HDMI cable. I tried using AV outputs from receiver to TV and I get picture and sound. I tried my old receiver using co-ax cable and get picture and sound. Any reason why the HDMI cable would produce a picture and no sound? There are no other instruments hooked up to the receiver or TV. ie, no AV receiver/switcher, no DVD, no computer, no Blu-Ray. I am running RG6 Quad cable, I have two cables coming off LNB 91 and two coming off LNB 82 running down to the SW44 switch. I have port 1 from SW44 switch running to power inserter and then to Bell 6400. I have port 2 running to the old Bell receiver which is working just fine on my old Panasonic TV. Please help.

You don't say how old your receiver is, but if over a few years old it may be capable of only passing video thru HDMI to your tv. Receivers were made only HDMI video pass thru at first, later they became video + audio pass thru. Check the specs for your receiver.

If the receiver Bell would replace it with a up to date HDMI port device.Another thing you can do is most receivers have RCA audio out ports you can get yourself a cable that has two RCA jacks at one end and a 3.5mm stereo jack at the other end.You simply plug it into the TV stereo input 3.5mm port and connect the other ends to the stereo output RCA ports on the receiver.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way read the TV manual closely bec sometimes the 3.5mm audio in is only for PC input. You may have the option off using RCA inputs on the TV too.

All things being equal, you shouldn't lose any excessive signal first-class with that setup. Both HDMI and optical, like you said, elevate digital sign. You're going to have some loss, when the signal gets transformed to optical, with the aid of the tv, however you are going to have in regards to the equal loss just from the television processing the signal for speaker output or for passthrough. The largest component in this equation is the processing first-class of the tv. I would clearly use the 2nd system, optical Blu-Ray to optical in receiver. This may bypass the television conversion absolutely, considering the fact that any time you convert a sign from one variety to another, you get some loss and a extend is imposed. The delay may also be disturbing whether it is various milliseconds, seeing that you can not consciously tell the difference between lips relocating and listening to the voice, however your unconscious catches it and it nags in the back of your intellect. That you could go both manner, but when pleasant is THAT most important, and you are inclined to spend the bucks to get an additional optical cable, the more direct the path, the better.
