Will the external speaker similarly produce this constant buzzing sound?

You could test if the problem is system or merely speaker by listening through a pair of head phones. If its clear in the headphones, speakers will fix it. Make sure to cover all your in and output wires with magnet guards to eat up interferences.

It depends.

Could be a blown speaker, or one going bad.

could also be a bad amplifier circuit component.(capacitor, IC, ect.)

Third, it may be the degaussing coil relay chattering. I have seen several tv's with a bad capacitor on the degaussing circuit causes chattering, which to the user sounds like a loud buzzing.

EDIT:7-13-07

If your hearing it thru the headphones as well, you have a problem in the audio circuit as I said up top here. More likely a capacitor, or chip that is defective. if you have the red & white output jacks, try those. if you get buzzing, you need to have it serviced for a defective part before it causes permenant damge.

I would have a local tech check it out and see what the exact cause is then go from there.

BTW, to use an external speaker, your going to have to run thru an amplifier and such, assuming you have audio OUTPUT jacks.
