I'm planning on buying a 42" and was wondering whether the resolution of 1024 x 768 will look bad or good at this size. I am planning on using the TV for gaming from 4 - 6ft away, and the image quality does look good from that distance, can anyone recommend any particular TVs?

Cheers :)

For that purpose viewed at a bit of s distance it will be fine.

Remember the reproduction can only be as good as the initial recording.

From 6 feet away for that size it will be fine. I have a 50" Pioneer that does 1280X768 (720P) and it looks great. I have been considering a 1920X1024 plasma, but all info from dealers have shown that I won't see any difference from more then 6 feet away. My only recommendation for you is to consider a flat panel LCD like the Sharp. Plasmas, I think look better, for now, but there is still a chance to burn an image into the screen. LCD won't retain an image, so for gaming is is better in that regard. LCD does draw an image on the screen a little slower then plasma so you may see some micro blocking with fast scenes.

If you are planning on using the tv for gaming stay clear of a plasma as you will probably end up with screen burn. As with viewing then if you are no more than 2.5mtrs away from the screen then you should be looking at no more than a 26in for getting the most out of your image

yes it will lokk great, but can i ask if you have the ps3, or xbox 360 hd dvd, if so go for a 1080 resolution as the the films will look awsome.

it may sound good and look great but playing that close wont do you any good? i would consider a 37inch plasma thats what i use as my room is not that big as for playing games its great too.

get a 1080 plasma instead if you're worried... but it really does depend how far away you're sitting.
