i just changed tv providers and they gave free "HD" channels, im watching my favrite shower the walking dead and its in HD its hard to explain but its sooo "high definition" "crisp" "clear" "smooth" that the show actually looks really fake and like a low budget film if you know what i mean. Its awesome watching sports, but tv shows seem totally fake and weird it seemed alot better the quality on just standard definition. Anyone know what i mean? What do you think?

TV shows are often recorded at a higher frame rate than movies (movies are typically 24 fps). The first Hobbit was released in HFR (high frame rate) and many who saw it said it looked like a TV show. the 24 fps gives movies the theatrical looks (really it is a little blur between shots).

I agree that I have troubles getting used to the effect. Certain TV systems will get it more depending on how they compress there signal. I seem to notice it more when I'm watching U-Verse TV at a friends house then on my system or my previous system (Comcast/Dish)

It's because TV shows are mostly in a studio, and so when you get a higher definition picture, you can sort of see how some things are kind of "not right." Live or "barely untouched" video usually doesn't get this surrealism treatment, so it feels more natural.

I bet what you're seeing is the soap opera effect. You can turn that off. That's what I did with my Samsung TV.

Could be the frame rate, the refresh rate or simply your perception of something new.
