Before I you read my question, know that I've already researched google extensively. Unless you can do it better, be my guest and link me. Otherwise don't copy and paste a google search link through your name to promote a website. Thanks. Now on to the problem:

Just bought a first generation Sega Genesis from a store, tried hooking up the co-axel filter up to my Dynex HDTV where it would accept a cable connection. Turned it to channel 3 and all other channels but I see nothing but black with some static and white horizontal lines moving up (only on channel 3, the rest is straight static white noise). I've tried every combination of every channel through every input possible with no results.

Would be nice to make this classic game system work with my HDTV.

Anyone have any tips? Do I need a converter? Thanks for the help.

I assume your TV has composite RCA A/V(audio/video) inputs(yellow, red, white) on it. Sometimes they are combined with the component inputs(red, green, blue video and red, white audio) and it will show it if you look close on the back of the TV. If it does then you're in luck because there's an RCA cable that has always been available for the Genesis consoles. You need to know which version you have though. There's the model 1, 2, and 3 Genesis. The model 1 has a different cable than the model 2 and 3 which use the same cable. This cable will have a black round DIN plug on one end and the yellow and white plugs on the other end or yellow, red, and white for the model 2 and 3. The cable is cheap on Ebay. It's like $6 shipped to your door from some sellers. lukiegames sells them cheap on EBay. Here's links to each cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-AV-AUDIO-VIDEO-CABLE-SEGA-GENESIS-2-AND-3-/370556056315?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item5646dcb2fb

To find identify which version of Genesis you have go here: http://www.gametrog.com/GAMETROG/HOW_which_SEGA_Genesis_system_model_do_I_have.html

It will also show you how to hook up any vintage Sega or Nintendo system.

Also, note that some HDTV sets will give a lag when playing non-HD vintage game consoles. This can make them unplayable due to the delay from controller input to screen action. It's always best to use a CRT tube TV with old game consoles.
