Is it best to buy a smart tv or a streaming device?

I plan to stream TV shows/movies and was wondering if it would be best to buy a smart TV, a regular TV and a streaming device or is one choice just about as good as the other and the matter comes down to personal preference.

Doesn't really matter they both do the same thing however smart tvs are usually more expensive so it might be cheaper to buy a regular tv and get a streaming box. Tbey are usually under $100.

A good panel with a external streaming device will probably give you a better experience.
The external box's support more file types and get regular updates to keep them current.
I have both the "Smart Hub" (one of the better smart panels) and the Western Digital TV Live box. The Smart Hub is slick, but when I stream from my NAS box, I cannot pause or re-wind with the Smart Hub. I can with the Western Digital box.

The outcome is the same really so I guess it comes down to preference and what apps you can get on the TV versus a streaming device.

There's plenty of deals on smart tvs right now. I have a tv connected to an xbox to make it "smart" then I have a smart tv in the living room. I prefer the smart tv over my tv with the xbox because its quicker to access the apps such as netflix. They both run smooth but with the smart tv it is easier to access..
Also you don't need to buy an Xbox, roku, etc if you are interested on only netflix/youtube. There's this product by google called "chromecast" I haven't tried it but the reviews are pretty good for it. It's a USB you connect to the tv and it allows you to access certain apps. I know youtube and Netflix are on there.
