I apologise for my ignorance i am from the ipod generation and am just used to using crappy active computer speakers. I have recently wanted to play my ps4 and spotify through my old big hifi speakers. After realising you cant just plug passive speakers into the tv (duh) i have got a receiver/amplifier which has pretty much every input.Unfortunately my tv is an early lcd and has limited outputs. it has

Coaxial
White Red and Yellow Av

Will any of these work and what cables or accessories will i require ?

First, identify the OUTPUTS on the TV. You listed INPUTS, not OUTPUTs.

Your TV should at least have a pair of red/white RCA outputs for stereo sound.

Newer TVs will also have an optical audio output and/or a digital-coax (looks like an orange RCA port) as well.

If you use an OUTPUT (not INPUT) on your TV, you'll have to configure the TV's sound menu to not use the TV speakers but instead use the output

If your TV has not OUTPUTs whatsoever then you have to get more creative. For your PS4, connect the video to your TV as normal. Then run an optical audio cable from the PS4 to your surround receiver.

Make sure you configure the PS4 to use the optical audio output and not the digital audio (the HDMI cable) This also means you'll have to manually turn on the TV, PS4, and the receiver, then set the TV and receiver to their proper inputs.

Don't get hung up on the labels of the inputs on the receiver. They're just for convenience, and have nothing to do with function. For instance my TV is connected to the "VCR" input on my receiver. I think I can reprogram the input, but I don't really care.

You can run the sound directly into your receiver from your device if your receiver has Optical sound input. Then attach the device to the tv with HDMI, and turn off the tv sound.

As mentioned by Daniel K, if by coaxial output you mean Optical output, that will work, otherwise try the direct sound into the receiver for best sound, and if you have a cable or sat box you can run them directly into the receiver as well and just control the devices sound by switching the receiver as necessary to the appropriate input.

The optical coax output should work great - you will need a simple optical cable:

You can get these at Walmart, Best Buy too.

The optical cable will connect to the optical connector on the receiver and the same on the TV.

If that does not work use the red/white RCA outputs.
