you can just change the view type on your new tvs remote. I recommend a sony bravia or a visio. Those are going to be your two top brands.

TVs have different view options. Sometimes they "stretch" a 4:3 image into a 16:9 image and then yes you get the wide looking people. But most TVs also have a native 4:3 setting (so view it pillarboxed) or a "zoom" setting which zooms in to fill the 16:9 setting (but the native aspect ratio is kept the same, so people don't look stretched). If you use a stretch option no information is lost you just have the disproportional people. If you use the zoom setting, then everyone looks right, but you lose part of the image (a little bit around all the edges).
And doesn't Dish Network do HD? If you get an HDTV can't you then watch the games in HD? Then there is no distortion issues at all. And you'll never go back. NFL in HD is out of this world.
Peyton needs a more consistent defense to get another ring. He'll always dominate the regular season, because he's too far beyond the rest of the league, but I'd like to see him back in the show. And it won't be easy goings if NE gets Julius Peppers.

Hey huni! When my hubby and I first bought our house, we bought a 32inch LCD Samsung flat screen and used that for about the first year... then we moved that into our bedroom and bought a 42in LG flatscreen for the living room... and we love it so far! Its 1080 and HD and all that junk! You'd be surprised at how much a difference 10 inch makes on a tv! We only paid right around $1100 for it, so your right on with your price range! I've never had a good experience with Sony for some reason, so I've tried to stay away from there products... But Samsung or LG are the best in my opinion! Heck, I even have a Samsung fridge! lol

well a 46 inch tv IS a widescreen tv if you think about it. There should be an option on your view format to switch the picture from wide screen to full screen. But most of the HD channels, especially sports, broadcast in widescreen hd.
Hope This Helps.

I have run in to that a lot. With today's TVs and the multiple aspect ratios that the broadcasters are using, you're going to have to get use to doing some manual adjustments every so often depending on how you connected everything. It is very annoying, but I'm sure that it will be less of an issue as things get ironed out. My TV and channel box have an HDMI connection. Since I've started using that (along with making the appropriate menu adjustments which is also a pain), the aspect ratio has been automatically adjusted for me. That frees me from the annoying task.

you just need to get a high def box and make sure it is set to wide screen format Cost about $100 $200 for one with a DVR
