I am thinking of buying a new TV and I have researched LCD,LED and Plasma. I found that an LED TV is just a LCD screen with a better back lighting system. If this is the case why are their still LCD TV's if the LED Tv's are better?

I keep wondering the same thing! Given that cold cathode illumination is old-school and obsolete, my only guess is that makers still use them on the cheapie sets as a reason to upsell you to a LED illuminated set for a higher profit. I'm really surprised that all LCD based sets today aren't LED illuminated.

Price and marketability keep the LCD TV's on the shelves. For my money, a modulated LED backlight is more pleasing to me than even plasma, and certainly far better than an incandescent backlit LCD. But I also have a slightly older traditional LCD unit that has great picture quality and can now be had pretty cheap. In fact for certain applications it would be a great deal so my advice is to shop carefully and compare. Above all get the best warranty for the best price - your eye will tell you whether or not the higher priced TV is worth it. If you aren't consistently watching native Blu-ray DVD's or trying to obtain true 3D compliance now then a traditional LED screen might be very adequate for you - if nobody was buying them they would disappear and so far they have not.

Led is the latest technology then the LCD and also the power consumption is more less when compared with LCD means - LED will consume less power than LCD because LED TVs use energy-efficient light emitting diodes (LED) for backlighting. These consume less power than cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) used in traditional LCD televisions. Power savings are typically 20-30%.
And the picture quality and sharpness are more detailed in LED and many more advancement are being included in LED.

LED HDTVs are cheaper and more efficient. If you want a gaming tv then you should select a plasma tv due to their high Hz refresh rate. It's important that you know your lighting situation though because if you place a plasma tv near the sun you then can get a screen burn and it also is like a mirror. LED does the best job of reducing reflection

- First, why are you buying a HD-TV? SD content will look bad on a HD-TV.
- If you got HD content like Blu-ray movies or ps4/ps3 or xbox one/360 videos games or computer video games or HD TV channels .ect will be a good reason to get a HD-TV.
- A LCD TV can use CCFL or LED backlights. LED's can*/may* last longer and use less power than CCFL.
- Most manufacturers who sell LCD CCFL TV's also skimp on others things as well and that could lead to a cheap/budget crap quality TV.
- LCD LED TV's may more sections (= smaller sections) of LED with more advance local dimming (backlight scanning) and they probably will be full array (back lit) (or they can make good edge lit displays too), also they may use more advanced stuff like In-plane switching (IPS) instead of Twisted Nematic (TN) .ect
= A budget plasma or a non budget plasma will beat any budget LCD CCFL.

Eventually the LED will replace the LCD backlighting.
