it is not possible to watch one program on satellite and record another on satellite because your satellite box is just one tuner, where as you can record a 'normal' t.v. station and watch another 'normal' t.v. station because you have 2 separate tuners (your video has one tuner, and your t.v. has the other)

the only way around your problem is to get sky plus.

In order to use a VCR, AND watch other channel that the one being recorded, you would need TWO dish receivers, with a splitted cable.

I have the same sort of set up as you. Basically, you can't with what you have right now. The only way that you would be able to record one satellite programme, whilst watching another is to have a second digibox. You should, however, be able to watch a terrestrial programme whilst recording satellite, and vice versa. Best idea is consult your service provider

Get a DVR through dish. Then you don't have to worry about tapes. Then you can buy a fairly good DVD recorder, hook that up to the Dish reciever and you're golden. Thats what I would do.

You need a receiver with two tuners, connect one tuner output to your TV and the other tuner output to your VCR.

Why dont you read the manual that came with your dish reciever.
